Nintendo E3 2019 Direct Recap

E3 brings out some of the industries biggest news, and Nintendo did not disappoint. Their 2019 E3 direct had all sorts of new titles announced including some updates on games that we already knew about. Nintendo’s own Doug Bowser even made his first E3 appearance in the video alongside that other Bowser.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate


Starting and ending with arguably the biggest Nintendo game ever, Super Smash Bros Ultimate is getting some new DLC characters! The Hero from Dragon Quest XI is coming to Smash this summer along with some different costumed looks. Each costume will change his or her look dramatically, but every Hero will use a sword and shield in combat.

Waiting until the end of their direct, Nintendo also showed us that Banjo Kazooie will be coming to Super Smash Bros Ultimate in the Fall of this year. Even Donkey and Diddy Kong were excited to see the duo.

Dragon Quest XI S Echoes of an Elusive Age


The definitive edition of the Square Enix JRPG is coming to the Switch as well as other platforms. Dragon Quest XI S releases in September.

Luigi’s Mansion 3


Luigi, Mario, and friends check in to a large hotel for some downtime only to find out that the place is haunted. Luigi must find his friends while capturing as many ghosts as he can. Luigi’s Mansion 3 will have Co-op using Luigi’s new companion, Gooigi. He has some unique abilities such as walking through metal gates, but he doesn’t fair well with water.


Play online in the Scarescraper game mode, which will have you looking for lost Toads and capturing the ghouls together in a set time limit. The game mode also supports local play.


Luigi’s Mansion 3 is slated for a 2019 release, but no concrete date has been given yet.

The Dark Crystal Age of Resistance Tactics


Based on the new Netflix version of the series, The Dark Crystal Age of Resistance Tactics is a real-time strategy game featuring the Gelfling. The game is slated for a 2019 release date. Netflix will be releasing the series on September 30, so the game will most likely come after.

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening


New gameplay was shown of the Link’s Awakening remake this time with some dungeon crafting. Players will be able to put together their own dungeons and explore them. After completing dungeons in the primary campaign, the chambers will be unlocked in crafting.


Dampe is making his first appearance in Link’s Awakening. He was initially seen as the grave keeper in Ocarina of Time. In Link’s Awakening, Dampe will show Link how to build his own chamber dungeons.


The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening comes to Nintendo Switch on September 20.

Trials of Mana


A remake of a Japan-only RPG, Trials of Mana is coming to the West in 2020. While you wait, you can play the original three Mana games, by purchasing the Collection of Mana from the Nintendo eShop. The collection contains Final Fantasy Adventure, Mystic Quest, and Secret of Mana.

Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6


Capcom’s horror games are launching on Nintendo’s platform this Fall. You can now play Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil, Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil Revelations, and Resident Evil Revelations 2 on the Switch.

Contra Rogue Corps


A totally new Contra from Konami will be playable on the Switch. This twin-stick shooter can be played in local co-op or online co-op. Fans of the franchise will be pleased to hear that Contra Anniversary Collection is available on Switch with 10 different Contra games and a 74 Page E-Book.


Contra Rogue Corps releases on September 24.

Daemon X Machina finally has a release date of September 13.

Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield


Nintendo has confirmed that the Pokeball Plus will be able to connect to Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield. Trainers can house their Pokemon into the Pokeball Plus and walk around with them. Unfortunately, you will not be able to play the game using the ball.


During the event, the Nintendo booth allowed some people to try out the new Dynamax battle system against Nessa, the water-based gym leader.


Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield release worldwide on November 15.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order


Marvel showed up to the E3 floor with Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order. The clips shown involved some new characters we haven’t seen in the game like Elsa Bloodstone, Ghost Rider, and Electra. They also announced an Expansion Pass that will bring elements of the Marvel Knights, Fantastic Four, and the X-Men into the game at a later date.


Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order will be playable on July 19.

Cadence of Hyrule


This musically based action adventure game brings Link and Zelda into a new form of exploration. Move and attack with rhythm and a beat.

Mario and Sonic at the Olympics


Based on the Olympics taking place in Japan in 2020, Mario, Sonic, and their friends will be competing for the gold. The game features sports like surfing, gymnastics, running, and many more.

The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild Sequel


The final part of Nintendo’s presentation was a video of the next possible branch of the Breath of the Wild story. With Zelda and Link exploring some underground tunnels of the castle, they come across the body of none other than Ganon. His eyes open up, and a cloud of dust rises from the Hyrule castle. The screen goes black and the words, “The sequel to the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is now in development,” appear on the screen.
