Pikachu, the face of Pokemon, who we have all known for the past twenty years, has apparently been keeping an electrifying (sorry) secret. According to an interview with graphic designer Atsuko Nishida, who was in charge of Pikachu's design, the electric mouse was originally meant to have a third evolution after Raichu.
This mysterious third evolution would have been called Gorochu. a name which refers to Goro-Goro, an onomatopoeia for thunder. Incidentally, Pikachu's name refers to Pika-Pika, a word that describes something sparkly, while Raichu takes its name from the Japanese word for thunder. Gorochu would have had horns and fangs. According to Ken Sugimori, an illustrator for the game, "There wasn’t any problem with its appearances, but it was omitted due to matters surrounding game balance."
What do you think? Should Nintendo have included Gorochu in the initial game? Should a future edition of Pokemon include this evolution? What's more shocking, this or the fact that Pikachu can talk?
