Throwback to the Best Old School Anime Ever

Growing up as a kid, I'd watch a lot of 90's and early 2000's shows that set the stage for what would later be an addiction. I think a lot of anime fans now can understand that feeling. Even shows we look back on now and feel are suddenly corny or maybe even all around bad still seem to hold a special place in our hearts. Here's just a few to get that nostalgia running!

1. Yu Yu Hakusho

This was one of the best things Toonami ever held on air during its anime hour. Following the story of Yusuke Urameshi, a junior high school student with a bad attitude, we find a story full of serious action and adventure. After being hit by a car while trying to save a small child, Yusuke finds himself in the afterlife. Since the Underworld has no real place for him yet and he's found to have a strong aura, he's recruited as a Spirit Detective.

2. Zatch Bell

An early 2000s anime, this show was literally the best thing ever. It was like an alternative to Pokemon that wasn't Digimon and the Pokemon were sort of people that could talk to you. Make sense? Neither did some of the humor in this show, but it was still beloved and cherished. Zatch is a Mamodo who is sent to Earth with one hundred others of his kind. After choosing a human, they battle each other until there is only one left and he or she will be named the new king of the Mamodo world!

3. Dragon Ball

Not Dragon Ball Super or Z, but the original Dragon Ball from the late 80s whose popularity carried into the 90s and early 2000s. This show was the start of an entire franchise we would have never guessed to take such popularity. A young monkey-tailed Goku and teenage Bulma go off on a journey to collect all seven Dragon Balls in hopes of making one wish.

4. Rurouni Kenshin

Himura Kenshin wanders all over Japan in hopes to provide to those in need with his services, trying to atone for the sins he committed as a war assassin. Even though he has a horrific past and brutal reputation, Kenshin really wants peace. No one would ever forget his heartbreaking and harsh journey nor his incredible romance with Kamiya Kaoru.

5. Zoids: Chaotic Century

Who could forget Zoids? The fight between the Empire and the Republic on planet Zi is probably one of the more forgotten on this list, but plenty of us would have probably killed for one of the figures as a kid. Van Flyheight, Zeke and Fiona, Irvine and Moonbay were a part of one crazy team that went into incredible battles that the late 90s probably couldn't handle.
